Asia Cup 2022: SL vs BAN- BAN Playing 11 vs SL (Predicted), Match 05. The fifth match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 will take place between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Thursday, September 1.

Not just India and Pakistan, but Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have also built something of rivalry amongst themselves. With two defeats in two Asia Cups (2016 & 2018), Sri Lanka will now seek to redeem itself against mighty Bangladesh.

Bangladesh on the other hand ended up playing in two Asia Cup finals in the year 2016 and 2018. In the year 2016, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by a margin of 23 runs. Things got worst for Sri Lanka in the 2018 edition as Bangladesh inflicted a loss of 128 runs on them.

Sri Lanka started their Asia Cup 2022 campaign with a defeat against Afghanistan. On the other hand, Bangladesh too will start its campaign against Afghanistan on the date (30th August 2022, 7:30 pm).

The Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh side will be aiming to improve their recent record in the shortest format, having won just two games out of 13 since the 2021 T20I World Cup last year. Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka is hoping that the Bangladesh bowling attack will not pose the same threat as his team had faced from the Afghans.

Sri Lanka versus Bangladesh at the Asia Cup does not instantly strike you as a fierce rivalry. After all, Sri Lanka holds a comfortable 11-3 lead in the head-to-head matches. Yet, there is rarely a lack of intensity when the two teams take the field.

Sri Lanka won the first 10 Asia Cup clashes between the sides. To sum up, it used to be a one-sided contest until the 2012 edition in Bangladesh. The scoreline still reads 3-11, but Bangladesh boasts a 3-1 lead over the past decade. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have played each other in 12 T20Is with Sri Lanka winning 8 times and Bangladesh 4 times.

Shakib Al Hasan will lead a 17-member Bangladesh side in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. Experienced players like Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim are also a part of the side. The Tigers were the finalists of the 2018 Asia Cup losing out to India in the summit clash.

Mahmudullah replaced Nurul Hasan who led Bangladesh in the T20I series against Zimbabwe. Mosaddek Hossain captained the team in the final of three T20Is in Zimbabwe, which Bangladesh lost 2-1. Bangladesh is placed alongside Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in group B.

They play their first game against Afghanistan on August 30 in Sharjah. After the Asia Cup 2022, they will play a T20I tri-series involving New Zealand and Pakistan in their build-up to the T20I World Cup in Australia.  While Litton Das misses out due to his hamstring injury, there was no place for Shoriful Islam, Munim Shahriar, and Najmul Hossain Shanto.

He also caught the eye during the Bangladesh Tigers program, where a number of fringe players are trained. Sabbir Rahman has been sent to the Caribbean to play one-day matches For Bangladesh A against West Indies A. He has played 44 T20Is so far, for 946 runs at an average of 24.89. Anamul Haque is another option to open the innings for the Bangladeshi side.
