Australia Pacer Scott Boland Aware of Missing Out In Place Of Josh Hazlewood

Scott Boland

Australia pacer Scott Boland has had a dream debut in the last Test at Melbourne. Becoming just the fourth indigenous cricketer to play for Australia, Boland bowled magnificently well in the second innings, picking up stunning figures of 6/7 in just four overs. He was super elated after winning the Man of the Match award.

However, Scott Boland understands that there is insane depth in fast bowling resources for Australia and that he might have to make way for Josh Hazlewood in the next Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Josh Hazlewood has been recovering from a side strain that he sustained during the first Test and is slated to be fit again before the fourth Test.

Here is what Boland had to say to Seven Network: “I understand how selection works. I’m 32 so I’ve been around the block in terms of what happens with those things. When you’ve got a guy like Josh Hazlewood coming back in, I don’t think I’m going to be standing in his way. He’ll be coming straight back in.”

The likes of Jhye Richardson and Michael Neser also in the pecking order are likely to be ahead of Scott Boland

Jhye Richardson had bowled brilliantly in the second Test win at the Adelaide Oval and a leg strain had kept him out of action in the MCG Test. With him likely to be back in the reckoning, that might put Scott Boland further behind in the pecking order.

With the SCG pitch offering assistance to spin, there are reports that Mitchell Swepson, the young leggie, could get a game alongside the experienced Nathan Lyon.

“We’d love nothing more for (Swepson) to get an opportunity but it will probably be conditions-dependent. Obviously, some hard conversations to be had at some stage,” George Bailey maintained.
