Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting hailed Tim David and resembled his quality to the late Andrew Symonds.
Australia on Thursday became the first team to announce its T20 World Cup squad. The defending world champions have named a 15-member squad for the mega event set to be hosted in Australia.

The Aaron Finch-led side has only made one change from their title-winning campaign last year. Singapore-born Tim David gets his maiden call-up with leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson dropped from the squad.
David has played 14 T20I matches for the Singapore national team, but under ICC rules, he is eligible to play for Australia immediately.
David has played in the world’s top T20 franchise leagues – Mumbai Indians in IPL, Hobart Hurricanes in BBL and Lancashire in T20 Blast. The 26-year-old has amassed 2640 runs in 115 T20 innings at a strike rate of 164.17.
Tim David is one of the more sought-after T20 batsmen in the world: Ricky Ponting
Ponting will be working with David closely at Hobart Hurricanes during the Big Bash League.
“It was only a couple of seasons ago he was struggling to get a game in the BBL and now he’s one of the more sought-after T20 batsmen in the world,” Ponting told foxsports.com.au.
“I saw up close in person in the IPL this year, some of the impacts he had on a few of those games (was devastating),” he added.
I equate Tim David to a bit like Andrew Symonds: Ricky Ponting
Ponting ranked David’s current form to his former teammate Symonds in the 2003 World Cup, where the latter scored 326 runs in five innings at 163.
“In every tournament, he’s played he’s continuing to get better and better, and I equate him to a bit like Andrew Symonds actually for the 2003 World Cup,” Ponting said.

“I reckon if you get him in and give him a go, he’s one of those guys who could actually not just win you one or two games, he could actually win you a tournament, so that I’m sure they’re thinking about him,” he added.
Australia are paired with England, New Zealand, Afghanistan and two more teams in Group 1 of the T20 World Cup 2022.
