Veteran Indian commentator and journalist Harsha Bhogle, who is popularly known as the voice of cricket, is hopeful that the star opening batsman KL Rahul, who is the captain of the Lucknow Super Kings (LSG), is not worried about the Orange Cap in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
Rahul has been facing heavy criticism for his recent performances with the bat for the India National Cricket Team. The 30-year-old got out for a golden duck in the high-voltage India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2022 match. In India’s second Asia Cup 2022 game against Hong Kong, KL Rahul got out after playing a bizarre knock of 36 runs off 39 balls, including 2 sixes.
Meanwhile, Bhogle said that Rahul didn’t look fluent with the bat against Hong Kong even after facing 39 balls.
“It was okay today as he was playing against Hong Kong. But even then I think taking 39 balls is way too much. Hong Kong you knew you would win it, but unlike Virat who looked more and more fluent as the innings went along, I don’t think KL Rahul looked more fluent on his 38th ball than he was earlier. So, I hope he gets as much time in the nets,” he told Cricbuzz.
KL Rahul, who is a once-in-a-generation-player, is getting stuck somewhere – Harsha Bhogle
The veteran commentator further said that Rahul, who is a once-in-a-generation player, is getting stuck somewhere and he needs to shed some fear. He asserted:
“Because everytime I see KL Rahul who is a once-in-a-generation-player who is getting stuck somewhere. I wonder whether he needs to shed some fear. Look I don’t know I haven’t played at that level. I haven’t been in those situations before. I just wonder if he needs to shed those fears, and say ‘doesn’t matter if I get out.’ And I hope next year, he is not worried about the Orange Cap.”
He added that questions will be raised if Rahul fails to get his rhythm back after playing all the games in the Asia Cup. He said:
“I honestly believe even after this Asia Cup, KL Rahul is still playing like this then we have a question for the selectors. If after these four games(Asia Cup 2022), if Rahul hasn’t got his rhythm back then there is a question. I would be very sad if that happens.”
