Rishabh Pant’s absence in the clash against Pakistan raised a lot of eyebrows. The left-handed batter was supposed to get the nod over Dinesh Karthik due to his flamboyant batting style. Rishabh Pant was tried as an opener in the recently concluded England T20I Series; where that experiment wasn’t that fruitful. He had a topsy-turvy Caribbean Tour; at the same time, he was striking the ball cleanly.
Former Wicket-keeper batter Patel was shocked by the omission of Rishabh Pant from the playing 11. Rishabh Pant would be confused as to on what grounds he wasn’t selected. Rishabh Pant has shown to the world that he is a match-winner and yet ignored was a bit questionable. Dinesh Karthik is someone who is good at the death overs, but Rishabh Pant can hold the innings and unleash maximums throughout the innings.
Parthiv Patel on Rishabh Pant
Parthiv Patel: “I was surprised by Rishabh Pant’s exclusion from playing XI. Everyone is debating over who should play, Rishabh Pant or Dinesh Karthik. But that is a wrong comparison”.
“I feel Virat Kohli should open in place of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant should bat in the middle order. The team needed a left-handed batter in the middle, which is why they promoted Ravindra Jadeja. So you need that left-right combination in between.”
“Virat Kohli is most suited to opening the batting in T20s. He’s got a lot of runs while opening for RCB. I firmly believe that who’s coming at No.3 depends on how the openers have batted.”
“KL Rahul got out first ball and then Kohli had to consolidate. But when you start from zero, you play the way you want to play and you can build your innings the way you want to.” Parthiv Patel concluded.
Rishabh Pant desperate for a Chance
Rishabh Pant would be gutted to prove everyone wrong that he is still one of the best finishers in the World. The left-handed batter as mentioned by Parthiv Patel can be used as a floater. He can also be the surprise package for the opposition team. The batter knows that he needs to remain calm & composed in this tough times.
There are “n” chances that Dinesh Karthik & Rishabh Pant may play in the same 11. As Ravindra Jadeja can’t be promoted up the order all the time. India may be tempted to play Hardik Pandya as the 5th bowler and strengthen the batting lineup. The totals every time won’t be around 150. It would be fascinating to see what would be the call of management for the upcoming matches.
