Virat Kohli played a fantastic 60-run knock while Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Deepak Hooda and Ravi Bishnoi chipped in decent contributions to help India post 181/7 on the board.
Chasing the target, Mohammad Rizwan scored 71 runs off 51 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes, and Mohammad Nawaz played a stellar knock of 42 runs off 20 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes. In the end, Khushdil Shah and Asif Ali provided the finishing touches to help Pakistan secure a crucial win in the Super 4 stage of the multi-nation tournament.
They got the edge the way they utilised the powerplay – Babar Azam
During the post-match presentation ceremony, Babar Azam said that the India National Cricket Team got the edge after a fantastic performance in the powerplay, but the Pakistan bowlers made a stellar comeback. He added that the 73-run partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Nawaz was the turning point in the match. Babar Azam said:
“Our effort is to keep it simple. Ups and downs will keep happening. They got the edge the way they utilised the powerplay. But our bowlers made a comeback. Rizwan and Nawaz’s partnership was the turning point.”
Babar Azam further talked about the reason behind the promotion of Mohammad Nawaz in the batting order. He said:
“I thought Nawaz could exceed because they had two legspinners operating so we spent them up (about his promotion). Our spinners and fast bowlers at the death set the stage for us.”
