Test vice-captain and star opening batsman KL Rahul has revealed that the Indian pacers don’t look at the Indian batters as teammates at the nets and keep them terrified.
One of the main reasons behind India’s recent success in Test cricket has been the performance of Indian pacers. The pace unit of India which is led by the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Siraj have done a great job for India in the overseas Tests also, at home speedster Umesh Yadav has done a great job for the team.
After India breached the fortress Centurion by defeating South Africa by 113 runs, KL Rahul said that the Indian pacers are ” competitive athletes” and playing against them at the nets is difficult. He asserted:
“Playing them at the nets is more difficult because we don’t enjoy facing them in the nets. Even at the nets, they keep us terrified. They don’t look at us as teammates, they are very, very competitive athletes and players.”
We Are Very Lucky To Have Such Quality In Our Bowling Line-up – KL Rahul
KL Rahul further added that India are lucky to have a quality bowling line-up and said quality bowlers like Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav being on the bench is a positive sign for the team. KL Rahul said:
“We are very lucky to have such quality in our bowling line-up. Two, three people who are at the bench as well. In Umesh and Ishant, we have a great bench strength. It’s a very positive sign for Team India that there are so many quality fast bowlers in the team and on the bench.”
KL Rahul further lauded Mohammed Shami who bagged a 5-wicket haul and a 3-wicket haul in the first Test against South Africa. He said:
“I think, in the last 3-4 years, he has come up with such performances. I don’t think it will be a special year for him in terms of the performances he has put in. I think he has been a really key bowler and a very strong player who has done well for us in all conditions. Hopefully, he can keep getting better and scale new highs in 2022.”
