Former Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra is reportedly expected to become the head coach of the newly-added franchise in the IPL, Ahmedabad. Former England opener, Vikram Solanki, could also become the ‘Director of Cricket’.

The franchise is still waiting to get its Letter of Intent (LOI) but that hasn’t stopped them from recruiting their coaching staff. World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten is also likely to join the franchise as a mentor.

As far as I have heard, they have signed Ashish as their head coach and someone who would be in overall charge of the franchise. Solanki will be the Director of Cricket and also expected to double up as batting coach and Kirsten will be in a mentorship role,” a source told PTI on grounds on anonymity.

The franchise cannot announce the signing of Ashish Nehra yet

As stated above, Ahmedabad is waiting to receive its LOI from the BCCI. As a result, they cannot make any official announcements. Once their participation is confirmed, they will also begin recruiting assistant coaches for the team.

The Ahmedabad franchise can’t announce it formally as it is a BCCI diktat and they can only make a formal announcement once they get the LOI. The head honchos of the Ahmedabad franchise has already interviewed the trio and short-listed them for the season,” the source added.

Nehra had earlier worked with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) but went on to mention that he will not take any role other than the head coach in the future. As per reports, he also shares a great professional relationship with Solanki which will work in the franchise’s favor.
