New Zealand are set to lock horns with Bangladesh in the first of the two-match Test series at Bay Oval Ground in Mount Maunganui. The first Test is scheduled to be played from 1st January to 5th January 2022.
New Zealand are coming into this series on the back of a 2-0 defeat in their last Test series in India. However, this time they will be playing at home. New Zealand have an outstanding record at home and would be confident of winning the series.
The Blackcaps have played against Bangladesh 15 times in Test Cricket. Of those, they have managed to beat Bangladesh on 12 occasions, while 3 Tests resulted in draws. New Zealand are yet to lose a Test match against Bangladesh. They would be keen to continue their unbeaten run ahead of a two-match Test series.
New Zealand will be playing the series without skipper Kane Williamson, who is currently recovering from an elbow injury. Tom Latham will, once again, lead the side in his absence. Given the Test match will be playing in New Zealand, you expect the team to include all their potent fast bowlers. Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, and Kyle Jamieson are all expected to be in action for the first Test.
In the batting department, Tom Latham will be opening the batting alongside Daryl Mitchell. Both are in top form and are expected to score heavily in the series. For those of you who don’t know, the upcoming two-match Test series will be the last Test series for Ross Taylor. He will retire from the format after playing these two Tests.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, needs to exhibit a miraculous performance to win against New Zealand. They are yet to win a Test match against New Zealand in the Test Cricket history. Bangladesh would be hoping that they win at least one Test out of Two in the upcoming series.
Though, it isn’t going to be easy as their most experience member, Shakib Al Hasan, isn’t available for the series. In his absence, the responsibility to score runs will fall on the likes of Liton Das, M Haque and M Rahim. Liton Das has been in outstanding form in Test Cricket, of late. However, whether he would be able to replicate that form in New Zealand remains to be seen.
