Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka vs India

Sri Lanka top-order batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa pulled off an interesting comparison following their win over Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2022. The 30-year-old drew parallels and stated that the Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka rivalry is similar to India vs Pakistan.

India vs Pakistan meetings are often considered as blockbuster encounters with all the buzz it generates. The recent clash between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka witnessed similar intensity but it took a negative route with the Lankan players doing the ‘naagin dance’ to rub it in after their emphatic win.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa, however, played down the brewing rivalry in the post-match conference saying, “It’s like India-Pakistan playing. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are rivals. But we are really good friends out of the field.”

Bhanuka Rajapaksa added that the Islanders are looking forward to playing against India and Pakistan in the Super 4.

Talking about Team India who have been in blistering form in this tournament as they defeated their arch-rival Pakistan by five wickets, he said, “Team India is always been a favourite in this tournament and they have been playing superb cricket. It would be good competition when all the teams play against each other in the Super 4. Looking forward to playing against India and Pakistan. It going to be amazing cricket.”

Sri Lanka players are high on confidence

The dynamic batsman further said that the two-wicket win over Bangladesh will boost the confidence of the Sri Lankan players.

“We are happy because after winning a game, it’s quite thrilling and what we need is winning games. We came here to justify ourselves to the UAE. This tournament was supposed to be held in Sri Lanka, but unfortunately, with the situation back home, we couldn’t keep it in Sri Lanka.”
