Sri Lanka and Bangladesh go head to head in match 5 of Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai on September 1, Thursday. Both teams are placed in group B alongside Afghanistan. India, Pakistan and Hong Kong are placed in group A. This is a must-win game for both teams after they lost to Afghanistan respectively. The Asian side became the first team in this Asia Cup to make the Super 4 win both their games.
Both teams are in a transitional phase of their cricket, There are a lot of questions raised in terms of leadership and management. Bangladesh are heading into the Asia Cup after losing to Zimbabwe in an ODI and T20I series. They lost to Afghanistan earlier this year as well in a T20I series.
Shakib Al Hasan who is leading the side is keen on taking one event at a time as he is looking to rebiuild the team for the T20 World Cup in Australia.
“I have no goals. My only aim is that we can do well in the (T20) World Cup and these are the preparations for it. If someone thinks that I can change things within one or two days or that someone else will come to change it, then we are living in a fool’s kingdom.”
“If you are able to think practically, our true development will be seen when the team really does well in the World Cup in three months’ time,” said Shakib on his captaincy.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, suffered a massive defeat in the first game against Afghanistan. They scored 105 which was chased in just 11 overs by Afghanistan. This match thus becomes a must-win for The Lankans.
During the group stage, each team will play one match against the teams in their group. The top 2 teams from both groups will qualify for the super four round. During the super 4 round, each team will play one match against the other. The top two teams will qualify for the final which will be played in Dubai on September 11.
