Veteran India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik was surprisingly dropped from Team India’s playing XI for the high-voltage Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 stage clash between arch-rivals, India and Pakistan.
The Round 2 of the Asia Cup 2022 battle between Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team is being played on Sunday, September 4, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. In the group stage game between the teams, the Men In Blue defeated the Men In Green by 5 wickets.

Meanwhile, India National Cricket Team lost the toss in the match against Pakistan and were invited to bat first in Dubai. Team India made three big changes to the playing XI for the blockbuster encounter as Hardik Pandya, Deepak Hooda and Ravi Bishnoi replaced Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja and Avesh Khan in the playing XI.
Notably, Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the entire Asia Cup due to a right knee injury and Avesh Khan had a fever. However, Dinesh Karthik’s exclusion came as a surprise to many fans.
The 37-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has been in terrific form in 2022. He performed sensationally well for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League 2022 and got his India recall.
Dinesh Karthik was given the role of a finisher in the Indian team in T20Is and so far he has done a glorious job. He was also preferred over Rishabh Pant in the group stage game against arch-rivals Pakistan National Cricket Team. However, he got the opportunity to play only one ball in that game and now he has been dropped from the team.
The reason behind Dinesh Karthik being dropped could be the absence of a left-handed batter in the Indian batting line-up.
After Ravindra Jadeja, who batted at No.4 for India in the game against Pakistan, got ruled out India had no left-handed batsman in the playing XI, which might have resulted in left-handed batsman Rishabh Pant getting preference over Karthik for the wicketkeeper-batsman’s position in the team.
